Posted in Basic Online Tutorials on January 16th, 2007 by Web Master

As your PC gets older and you accumulate more files on your hard drive, your computer will start to hesitate or become slow.  It may take longer to open a file or start a program.  It may take several minutes for your PC to boot up when you turn it on.  That’s why it is so important to run routine maintenance on your PC.  Here are a few things you can do to help speed up your computer’s performance.

  • Make sure you are updating your PC’s operating system, anti-virus, anti-spyware and PC hardware drivers on a regular basis.  At a minimum, at least monthly.
  • Do frequent scans of your PC using your anti-spyware and anti-virus programs.
  • Run a Defragmentation on your hard drive every month or two.
  • Run a Disk Clean-up on your PC every couple of months.
  • Limit the amount of programs that open at computer Start-Up.
  • Disable Hibernation Mode (Windows XP Users)

If you are not sure how to do all of these things, just follow our easy to use tutorials in this article to help walk you through each item step-by-step.
